JG Ingenieros carried out the Architectural & Engineering services for the design and construction supervision of the extension and renovation of new Cruise Terminal No. 6 of Palma de Mallorca for the Autoridad Portuaria de Baleares (Balearic Islands Port Authority).
In view of the progressive increase of the number of cruise passengers and the need of operating with increasingly larger vessels, the Autoridad Portuaria de Baleares decided to expand the existing 2,500-m2 Cruise Terminal No. 6 and to build a new terminal of about 10,000 m2 in a single level. The exterior areas were also redesigned to arrange the traffic of private vehicles, taxis, buses, supplies, etc.
A building of approximately 10,000 m2 is proposed where the sequence of the main spaces of the terminal is organized, starting with the entrance hall, the control area, the waiting room related to the check-in area, the commercial spaces and the boarding area. An interior glass curtain wall functionally separates the check-in and boarding area from the disembarkation and baggage claim area. The entire building is also equipped with 3,600m2 of covered outdoor spaces. The construction of the building is being carried out in two phases so that it fulfills the need of the Port to continue operating the Terminal throughout the construction process.
