Focus 74: Chulacanas Support Hospital II-1, Peru
Resilient and sustainable hospital infrastructure in Piura.
The Chulucanas Level II-1 Support Hospital is a newly built 16,200 m² facility with 92 beds, 29 consulting rooms, and 4 operating theaters, designed to expand healthcare capacity in the Piura region and serve approximately 173,000 inhabitants. It is the first Peruvian hospital delivered under the Government-to-Government agreement with the United Kingdom.
The comprehensive design, developed in fast-track mode by the consortium formed by JG Ingenieros and Conurma, responds to an environment of high seismicity and seasonal flooding through solutions aimed at maintaining the continuous operation of the center.
Project highlights:
- Resilience to natural hazards: elevated platform, drainage networks, storm pond and seismic isolation at the base of the building.
- Continuity of care: emergency power supply, UPS systems for critical areas and medical gas networks designed for safe operation.
- Efficiency and sustainability: greywater reuse, efficient air conditioning, LED lighting and rooftop photovoltaic production.
- Integrated building management: redundant IP platform and BMS to monitor HVAC, lighting, energy, water, medical gases and security.
The project combines safety, efficiency and comprehensive control to meet the demands of a highly complex healthcare infrastructure.
