Unleashing the potential of Energy Simulation with DesignBuilder
For JG Ingenieros, reducing energy consumption has become a priority objective in the design of sustainable and efficient facilities.
In this context, energy simulation software represents a fundamental tool for the building design process, especially if the goal is Net Zero buildings. This design methodology is involved in the early stages of architectural and facility design and evolves in parallel throughout the design phase, assisting in decision-making regarding every aspect that may affect the building’s energy consumption.
In recent years, the use of simulation engines such as DesignBuilder (DB) has become widespread for conducting energy performance simulation studies in buildings. However, some systems widely used in commercial buildings that comply with current regulations are not included in the program.
We share with you the study prepared by our colleagues Adela Casanovas Revilla , Marta Montoliu i Mas , and Albert Artús , which presents a methodology for modeling three common systems: primary and secondary water circuits, 2-pipe heat pumps connected to 4-pipe systems, and heat recovery in chiller plants. The objective is to obtain realistic models that allow us to evaluate the energy savings these systems generate, as well as their impact on the sustainability and comfort of the spaces. In this study, we also present validation methodologies for each solution.
